Right now in Cape Town, I’m planning a party to fix the world! I’m project managing Design Indaba’s opening night gig on 29 Feb 2012 – COMMON Pitch: South Africa, with our partners, US-based COMMON.
We’re transforming the august City Hall (where Nelson Mandela gave his first Presidential speech) into a trendy, market-inspired space with food and drink and some fast-paced, life-changing entertainment.
Social entrepreneurs will pitch their ideas to a panel of high-flying creative and business professionals: think Dragon’s Den, but with a 500-strong audience, bar, food market and cool live music. In fact, think a social innovation version of Dragons’ Pen, my literary pitch night at the Edinburgh International Book Fest.
It’s also a competition – the winner stands to take home a grand prize of R200,000 in cash (that’s about £16,500) to make their plans into reality, and start changing lives.
More about these projects when the entrepreneurs arrive, but for now, here’s an overview of the 11 projects, and some of their pitch videos.
